Refacing Cabinets

Reface Rather Than Replace
If you like everything about your kitchen except the way it looks, consider yourself lucky. You may only need to renew surfaces to give the room a fresh look.

If you’re really fortunate, you won’t even have to replace cabinets. You can paint or reface them instead. As the name implies, “refacing” is a surface change accomplished by adding a layer of wood veneer or plastic laminate to the cabinet body. New cabinet doors, drawer fronts, hinges, and hardware then are added. Refacing can transform dreary, out-of-date cabinets into fresh ones.

A major benefit of refacing is that it causes only minimum disruption of the house and family routine. In some cases, the cabinets don’t even have to be emptied. Important, too, for do-it-yourselfers is that the work can be done piecemeal, in your spare time.
