Even the most lackluster space can be energized with a vibrant color. Paint the walls or cabinets a lively hue. Re-cover chairs or stools with bright, patterned fabric. Hang new curtains in a can't-miss-it shade.
Red is an especially great color for the kitchen. The warm hue stimulates the palette and is an appealing background for many foods. This commercial-looking kitchen feels cozy, thanks to the red on the lower two-thirds of the walls. A strategic use of color -- in this instance, use of a light orange to soar to the ceiling -- allows you to control the impact of any high-energy hue.

7/22/2010 04:12:36 PM Report AbuseIf I see one more white kitchen on this site I am just going to delete your mail. I know I am older than most of you members ,but I remember white kitchens of the fifties with curtins under the sinks and all the other things your designers seem to "think-up", but the reason we went past those ideas was, there better ways to to acheive a more cohesive look to a room. Please don't take us back to the dark ages of design
6/28/2010 11:38:46 PM Report AbusePlease give me a life without a white kitchen.
6/28/2010 11:29:45 PM Report AbuseNot White again. Give us a break. we cook in these kitchens, don't have maids to clean and most of us have small kitens. Give us some everyday life kitchens not some fairytale wish of a kitchen
6/28/2010 11:28:22 PM Report AbuseThis is better. More practical. Please tell your designer to design for "real" life. Ideas are great but what we have to live with is more helpful
6/28/2010 11:24:21 PM Report AbuseWhite cabinets really? curtains under the sink yuck!where do the "now" designers get their ideas, looking at what we hated in the '50's
6/28/2010 11:22:11 PM Report Abuseatleast you are getting away from White cabinets.
6/28/2010 11:18:12 PM Report AbuseTo add to amyphalon's request on small size kitchen, I am also in the same situation and would greatly benefit from ideas on how to maximize very small kitchens. thanks!
5/24/2010 10:09:18 AM Report AbuseDo you have any design ideas for a small kitchen? It seems all of the "small" kitchen ideas are for open-concept rooms or are still large enough for an island, 6-burner stove top, wall ovens, and/or a dinning table. I don't consider that small. I need a design that fits the basics: fridge, range, sink and storage into an 8'X8' room.
2/8/2010 02:30:06 PM Report AbuseI wonder what the upkeep on painted tile is?
1/13/2010 07:17:13 PM Report AbuseDoes this only work on the backsplash tiles? Can you paint selected tiles or do you have to do the whole field? I would love to get rid of the white tile/white grout on my countertops without a major renovation or mess.
