Maximizing Bathroom Storage Space

Ways to maximize a bathroom's storage space, specifically around the sink, bathtub, and toilet.
Maximize Storage Around the Sink, Tub, and Toilet

In bathrooms, just as in houses as a whole, it's nearly impossible to have too much storage space. Here's how to maximize your bathroom storage:

Around the Sink
This area has two primary storage places: the vanity and the medicine cabinet. When selecting a vanity, consider how you will use it. Will it store cleaning supplies? Towels? Cosmetics? Hair dryers? All of the above? Your answers will determine the most efficient combination of cabinet space and drawers.

You can improve the storage capacity of an existing vanity by making a few simple modifications. Mount wire racks on the inside of cabinet doors, and add shelves or half-shelves. Take a cue from kitchen cabinetry and include pullout elements such as a wastebasket, shelves, and towel rods. If budget and space allow, create built-in nooks for toothbrushes, razors, and other grooming aids.

A mirrored medicine chest above the vanity provides ideal storage for cosmetics and toiletries. Chests can be mounted on the wall surface or recessed into the wall. Look for models with adjustable shelves.
