Eco-Friendly Bathroom

Faucets and Fixtures

Conserving water is the most important environmentally friendly strategy for the bathroom, and you can do it beautifully with new faucets and fixtures available from companies such as Kohler and Toto. Look for contemporary and traditional styles and finishes in low-flow showerheads, toilets, and lavatory faucets.

Sinks and Vanities

The wide variety of decorative sinks available today will be a surprise if you haven’t undertaken a recent remodeling. Vessel sinks in ceramic and glass are often mounted on top of the vanity, but you may also see these stylish sinks recessed into the vanity. Look for wood vanities certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, or better yet, refashion an antique.

Walls and Floor

Recycled-content tile is eco-friendly and increasingly available. Natural stone and marble are also good choices, although more expensive. As in the kitchen, natural linoleum offers environmental advantages and is durable and water-resistant.
