Bath Sinks
We’ve seen the rise of bath sinks in recent years: Above-counter models—often resembling artistic bowls—continue to be popular. Traditional console and pedestal styles also are holding their own. You’ll find these and other statement sinks in a variety of materials, all designed to enhance your decor and your grooming experience.
When shopping for a new bathroom sink, keep these points in mind:
• Above-counter bowllike sinks require special care and installation considerations. With the outside of the sink exposed, you’ll have more surface area to clean. If the sink is especially deep, you may need a shorter vanity and a taller faucet.
• Pedestals and wall-mount sinks bring an open feeling to a small bath, but be sure to think about replacement storage. Medicine cabinets and open shelving can be good alternatives to a vanity.
• Console sinks are popular for their resemblance to furniture, but most reveal plumbing. Are you willing to have your pipes on display?
• If you’re planning a bath with two sinks, allow enough space. Ideally, the distance from the center of one sink to the center of another should be at least 36 inches, according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association. If people of different heights will be sharing the bath, separate vanities—32–43 inches high—may be your best bet.
