- One 30x40-inch cabinet base
- Narrow stack of wine-storage cubbies (or build using ¾-inch plywood)
- Wire cutters
- Wire mesh
- Plywood (to make countertop ledge)
- Glass blocks

- Tile edging or molding

- Paint brushes or rollers

Step 1: Build or buy a narrow stack of wine-storage cubbies and attach them to one end of the cabinet.
Step 2: Remove the panels in the doors. Replace with wire mesh, hiding cut edges on the inside with strips of molding.
Step 3: Make the countertop and ledge from ¾-inch plywood.
Step 4: Top with tile; edge with tile or wood molding.
Step 5: Set the ledge on grouted glass blocks, securing it with brackets or corbels at the back for more strength.
Step 6: Try a textured or specialty paint treatment. This may be the place to bring an accent color into your kitchen.
Step 7: Install hardware pulls on drawer and doors.
