Spiff Up Cabinets

Metal-Morphosis
A sheet of galvanized steel is the main element in transforming this door.

Materials to Buy

  • Sheet of galvanized steel
  • Screen molding
  • Finishing nails
  • Paintbrush
  • Stain-blocking primer
  • Latex paint
  • Cathedral-arch raised-panel cabinet door

Tools to Gather

  • Fine sandpaper
  • Tin snips
  • Tape measure
  • Miter saw
  • Hammer

Step 1: Clean and lightly sand door.

Step 2: Using tin snips, cut steel to overlap the door’s recessed area by 1/8-inch, and then secure with finishing nails.

Step 3: Cut the screen molding to overlap the steel by ¼ inch. Use miter saw to finish corners and then secure the molding around the door’s perimeter with finishing nails.

Step 4: Apply a stain-blocking primer to the molding and allow to air dry.

Step 5: Finish by painting wood with two to three coats of latex paint. Patch nail holes and touch up with paint.
