Car paint is the key element in this door's transformation.

Materials to Buy

  • 1x4-inch wood trim
  • Stain-blocking primer
  • Paint sprayer
  • Car paint (available at automotive paint stores)
  • Clear topcoat paint
  • Arch raised panel cabinet door

Tools to Gather

  • Fine sandpaper
  • Damp cloth


    Here's the original cabinet door.

Step 1: Clean and lightly sand door.

Step 2: Apply 1x4-inch wood trim--using butt joints--around edge of door to cover arch and recessed area.

Step 3: Lightly sand with fine sandpaper and clean with damp cloth.

Step 4: Apply a stain-blocking primer and allow to air dry.

Step 5: With paint sprayer, apply two or three coats of car paint. Allow to air dry.

Step 6: Finish with a clear topcoat to provide shine and color depth.
