Traditional Trim

Materials to Buy
- Wood molding blocks
- Finishing nails
- Trim pieces
- Paintbrush
- Stain-blocking primer
- Taupe latex paint
- Black latex paint
- Square raised-panel cabinet door
Tools to Gather
- Fine sandpaper
- Damp cloth
- Wood glue
- Saw
- Clean towel
- Router
Step 1: Clean and lightly sand door.
Step 2: Position wood molding blocks as desired on the door and adhere using wood glue. Secure them from the back of the door with small nails.
Step 3: Using a saw, cut the trim pieces to fit between the blocks and similarly secure with glue and nails.
Step 4: Apply a stain-blocking primer and two or three coats of taupe latex paint, allowing it to dry after each coat.
Step 5: Use a small brush to apply a mixture of 1 part black latex paint to 1 part water in the molding and trim piece grooves. Let stand 10 seconds; wipe with a clean towel. Allow to air dry.
Step 6: Route a small groove on the bottom inside edge of the door for fingertip pull space. |
