5 Types of Remodeling Projects

Once you decide what kind of bathroom you want, it’s time to plot your strategy for making it a reality. The following five basic remodeling categories are arranged from the least costly to the most expensive:

Small Projects
1. Facelift
If an existing bathroom works well but could use a new style, it may need only a facelift. This involves re-covering, refinishing, or replacing any or all of the existing wall, floor, ceiling, and countertop surfaces. It also can include replacing the plumbing fixtures and/or adding new lighting, a heat lamp, and an exhaust fan. You can make a dramatic change for relatively little money and labor.

2. Minimal Remodeling
With a few changes to the existing layout, you can make a small bathroom function and feel like a larger one. A bath can be divided into sections by adding a wall, and perhaps a pocket door, to separate the tub (or tub and toilet) from the lavatory. Create a sense of expanded space by adding a large mirror or two, installing recessed or strip lighting fixtures, or raising or vaulting the ceiling.
