Plan a Sit-Down
Makeup Vanity

If you use your bathroom frequently for applying makeup, consider creating a separate makeup station. Setting it up correctly will help you look your best. Here are some tips:

• Make sure there are enough electrical outlets. If you have two curling irons and a hair dryer, you’ll need more than one outlet.

• Put everything in its place. Purchase drawer organizers for cosmetics and hooks for hanging your hair dryer and curling iron.

• If possible, light the area to duplicate the lighting in the place where you’re preparing to spend the most time. That is, if your workplace has fluorescent lighting, your makeup center should have fluorescent lighting. The best makeup centers allow users to switch from one type of light to another, but this can be expensive.

• Plan the proper distance between you and the mirror. When applying eye makeup or lipstick, it’s hard to get close enough to the vanity mirror, so supplement it with a hand mirror.

• Place the center out of high-traffic areas so you’re not jostled as you apply your makeup.

• When choosing colors, use lighter versions of the colors of the clothes that look good on you. The lighter colors reflect flattering light, allowing you to get your makeup colors correct.
